At the beginning of this term I did not know much about media. I did not know much about what media does to people. I thought that media was just a tool to get informations, but it was more than that. I found out that media is very powerful and affective in our lives. I did not know that there are many competitions in media world. I thought that it they no not affect each other but they are affecting each other a lot. For example, when Internet came out, books and newspapers were very effected by internet. I learned how internet changed things in media world and what negative effects were created because of the internet.

Blog is one thing that I learned in this class. When I first tried to do blog I had really hard time what to write about. After couple of weeks later, I started to find out why blogs are important and how it effects the world. Now I really like to post things on blog and I think I’ll continue posting after this term.

Week 9 Disney Movies

I remember myself watching many Disney movies when I was young. The best Disney movie I ever watched was The Lion King. I watched this film probably more than at least 30 times. When the DVD came out I bought it. Like this, many adults have some memories about Disney movies. Disney movies are the icon for every children in the world. When a family plans to go watch movies and if there is a children, they think about going to watch Disney movies. Disney movies are their number one choice for their children. I never though about what negative impacts were from watching Disney movies. The only negative impact that I had from watching Disney movie was that I spent too much time watching Disney movies, I didn’t do my homework because of watching Disney movies and so on. There was not any negative impacts because of the story itself of Disney movies. People in the video were saying that Disney shows some racism, sexism and so on, but I don’t think children will ever find out what they were showing. For example, I had no idea that after the little mermaid gave up her voice, the only thing she had left was her body to achieve her love. How the hell 7 year old can find out about this? I think people in the video were just over reacting. I think they have personal negative experience on Disney. I think Disney should make more movies that will over succeed the lion king.

Week 8 Guest speaker

I couldn’t make it to class that day so I missed his lecture about what he does and how he does his thing, so I saw the video of him which Michael have posted on the blackboard. I think what he does is really cool, I never knew that there is a stuff like that he was talking about. I think for some people what he does can be very difficult and boring, but for those of people who has many ideas and loves to write thing will love his job. In my case I love giving my ideas to people, and I will love it more if I get paid for it. But if I choose to do what he does, I think it is going to be hard for me to do is to do thing all by myself. I think the hardest part of what he does is to organize thing for his ideas. I think having a good idea is not that hard but to organize one idea will be very difficult. Overall, I really liked about his job and his lecture for all of us. It was very helpful.

Free Music

Nowadays, almost every people have an I pod, and they are holding at least more than 1000 songs in there I pod. I bet most of them purchased songs illegally. There are many different websites that allows other people to download songs for free. In music makers’ point of view, this can lead to a bankruptcy. I think downloading musics illegally is very crucial to music makers, so people should download music by paying legally. I know that the coast of each music is some what very expansive, so music makers should reduce the price per music so that people can purchase them easily and feel comfortably. Downloading musics for free should be consider as a crime. I also purchased music for free for last 2 years, and then I started to buy actual CDs. I think it is better to keep the CDs and also keep them in their I pod. People should not be a criminal by downloading  musics.

Facebook and Social network.

For any college or high school even for middle school students, they all have Facebook. It is very hard to find people who do not have Facebook. If someone doest not have Facebook, he or she have MSN, or AIM to communicate with others. If someone does not have both, then he or she does not have internet connection. What I’m trying to say is that everyone in this world has someway to connect with other people in their house. Since everyone has one of these, the social network can be very important in our society, but many people are spending more than what they should on these social networks. When you start conversation with other person, it is very easy to spend an hour just by typing. It is very hard to think about how much time you are spending on when you are in the situation. We are know that these social networks are very easy and convenient to communicate with others, but we do not know what we are wasting because of these social networks. I think we all should be consider what is more important then just communicating with others.

Importance of Internet police force.

Some people are complaining about having an internet police force because it invades people’s privacies. I think having an internet police force is the best way to identify criminals online. There are many internet users who posts illegal stuffs online, and there are people who try to hack into someone’s private area such as blogs.

In other countries there are many people who commit suicide because of peoples rude and crucial comments on certain person. Especially many celebrities committed suicide because many other people wrote something very hurtful to him or her. Sometimes people spread rumors about someone, and that rumor leads to ones death. Sometime there are people who try to hack into our government system. Internet police forces are the solution to these kind of problems. Since there are many people who do whatever they want because the internet does not show their faces, internet police force find them and punishes them for what they have done.

If the internet police force did not exist, there will be increasing amount of people who will try to hack into others system. Everyday, there are many different kind of online crimes obtained, and there are fewer ways to prevent that problems. Internet police forces are still trying their best to identify that criminals. Even though people can think about them as a privacy invaders, it is always there to reduce the crucial online crimes. There should be more investment for the internet police force.

Will there be any more superstar?

Michael Jackson; the king of pop, died in June 25th 2009. For many people, he was the definition of the Superstar. Almost everybody knew who Michael Jackson was, and almost everybody has listened to at least one of his song. When he died 3 month ago, all the TV stations made a focus on the death of the ‘king of pop’. Our main question is that will there be any more superstars? as super as Michael Jackson was?. Superstar is created by audiences, it is all about how many people will remember him/her.

The biggest problem of creating another superstar is that people are watching many other TV programs, so people cannot focus on just one star to make him or her as a true superstar. There are too many TV channels now compared to Michael Jackson era. Every time when people turned on TVs, people saw Michael Jackson on TV but now, there are many other TV programs that are not focused on stars. They focus on other things such as remodeling houses, cooking, games and so on. There are not enough opportunities for stars to become a superstar.

Another reason there cannot be another superstar is that there are too many competitions. Many artists have their own style of performing their arts, and they are all good. It is much harder for them to survive than Michael Jackson’s era. Which means it is hard to find someone who is specially better than the other.

It is going to be very hard to find a superstar, as super as Michael Jackson was. Audiences are fragmented, and there are too many competitions. Important thing is that audiences are craving for a superstar, so even though finding a superstar is going to be much harder than before,  there will be another superstar.

College Mental Health

Many people do not realize how important mental health is for students. Many colleges and universities do not deeply concerned with their students’ mental issues. Many students are very stressed out by writing 10 pages essay, submitting their homework in time and so on. If a student has a mental issues, and go to the health office in their campus, they just tell you to go to hospital and do not concern at all. Many students cannot do their best when they are too stressed out and have mental issues. For some students, these mental health can lead them to killing other students, or committing suicide. These tragic events became a huge problem these days in United States. Many students commit suicide because of their stresses. A professor in UCLA once said these mental issues can also affect students’ social life. Those people who have some issues with their mental health, have trouble with socializing with others. The real problem is that can mental health problem be excused. It is really hard to determine that whether a student have mental health issues or not. They can always fake and be excused. If students have serious mental health issues, students have to be excused from their school works and others that may affect their life, but these mental health issues cannot be as excused as any physical effects. I think scientists or doctors have to find out ways to distinguish mental health issues and make them excusable for people who mental health issues affects their life hugely. And to reduce students who fake to have a mental health issues. Scientists and doctors also have to work hard to find out how to cure mental health issues, not by any kind of medicine, by exercising or by communicating with different types of people and share their thoughts. Mental health has to be a number one health priority for every person.

From Radio to TV, from TV to Internet, from Internet to ????

When people wanted to hear what was going on in the world, they could get lots of information from radio or newspapers. People gathered all together to “hear” any sports games, rather than watch sports games. Radio gave lots of information to many people in the world. Every morning in the streets, people could read newspaper and find out what was going on in the other side of the world and share their thoughts with their friends or other workers. To find out how World War 2 was going, people had to wait for newspapers to find out. And then the greatest mechanism of all, Television appeared. When TV came out, people could watch news, and watch sports games. Later on more and more programs has created and more channel has been made. And then finally internet has been created. The appearance of internet changed things in the world a lot. People could listen to radio online, people could read or watch news online, people could watch sports games online. They can do pretty much everything with internet. From radio to internet, in only took a little more than 100 years. What we have to realize is what is going to be created after the internet. What can it do? and what more other things can it do than internet? When internet was created, many new types of business was also created, and even writers had to learn how to submit there writings online. Before something better than internet appears, people have to think ahead and figure out how will they going to fit in to the new technology. Technologies are developing every other day, fast. And people have to keep getting use to it, otherwise we can not be able to communicate with other people comfortably.

My First Blog..

This blog is my first blog I’ve ever created in my life. I do not know how to post my writings, and post pictures, but I guess I have to try it. Before I started to create this blog, I was not even sure what the blog was, and I still don’t know what they are for. I never went into someone’s blog and read what they wrote because I really do not know if its very useful source for me. If I wanted to know what everyone else thought about certain topic, I just read comments on the news article, comments on TV shows, and even comments on a short video clip. I guess one thing I like about blog is that I can read and understand deeply about one persons thoughts and point of view on certain topic. Most of people have one certain theme for their blogs and they write about all kinds of useful information about that topic, so I can get more knowledge about that topic. The blogs also can help me connecting with certain people and share our thought by commenting other peoples posts. These can not be done by just reading others comments.

When I choose my TV programs or movies to watch, I first listen to what other people say about the show or the movie. If I found out that many people watched that show or a movie and liked it, then I go look for the show or the movie they talked about, so in my case, I look for rating on that TV show or movie.
